MGCF Trip To Ghana 2017

MGCF Trip To Ghana 2017

From 2016-2021, MGCF received a generous donations from the Anthony & Catherine Fusco Foundation.

With these donations MGCF was able to target two schools in need, provide school supplies to many children, and in 2021 complete our first school building project.

Check it out below!

Adusa Primary School

MGCF decided to target two schools in particular for their 2017 trip. One of these schools was Adusa Primary School, located in Mayera, a community in Accra. The founder of MGCF, Bea Nkumsah and board member Mike Nkumsah visited the school to visit the classes and discuss how MGCF could be of greater assistance with administrators and teachers. In alignment with our mission of sustainable aid through economic empowerment, MGCF purchased exercise books and school suuplies through local Ghanaian vendors to give to the students. It Takes A Village Initiative

"It takes a village to raise a child"

Upon discussing the school's needs with administrators, MGCF found that learning was being inhibited due to the physical structure of the school. MGCF decided to help Adusa restructure the school by constructing new classrooms. Keeping the philosophy that people in a community are the experts of their lives, and hence are most likely to know the best way to remedy issues, the community took the lead on fixing the school. MGCF funded the materials and supervised the work, while members of the community and master masons rebuilt the school. Check out the gallery below.

It Takes A Village empowers communities in need to be the leads in remedying the problems they have.

MGCF's "It Takes a Village" Initiative embodies the ideology that people are the experts of their own lives. Having Ghanaians complete construction increases chances that the construction done will be able to be maintained by those in the community and will be completed accurately. Community involvement increases community investment, and it stretches the value of the dollar, creating the sustainable aid we desire to attain. We plan to expand this model to more schools and communities.

Cape Coast School for the Deaf and the Blind

The Cape Coast School of the Deaf and the Blind is a government located in Cape Coast. MGCF wanted to visit the school after Bea Nkumsah and her daughter, Michelle, watched a documentary on the school detailing some obstacles that administrators and students face.

Originally, MGCF wanted to donated a much needed fridge to the school after seeing that the nurses' quarters didn't have one to house medication. However, after visiting, we found a fridge had been donated and were informed that the windows in the sleeping quarters for students needed to be replaced and the canteen needed new bowls and utensils. MGCF donated these bowls and utensils as well as provided the funds needed to replace the windows.

Check out the gallery above, as well as the videos to see MGCF's visit.
